  • Generally speaking, verbal approximations of value (VAV) are helpful when your value questions do not require a formal written appraisal. In fact, verbal approximations of value (VAV) are conclusions from the appraisers experience and best judgement and opinion, and are not formal written appraisals.

  • All things considered, a VAV allows our clients to financially equalize the distribution of inherited personal property between heirs of an estate. Also, a VAV is also useful in other distribution situations. Most importantly, assigning a value, prior to distribution, assures that each party receives their equitable share. Given these points, during this type of evaluation service, we examine and evaluate your item(s). Finally, an informed opinion concerning value, condition, desirability, marketability etc. will then be given.

  • In summery, through conducting a VAV, we can examine many more items because it is not necessary to take the time to make written notes or measurements of each item, as is necessary in a formal written appraisal. Notably, there is no additional research conducted with a VAV, unless requested, and no information is put in writing, just verbal conveyance of values. In short, you the client, would record the information we give you for your records.

IN BRIEF, HERE IS HOW WALK-IN VAV SERVICE WORKS:

  • Finally, you will receive a receipt with abbreviated information for our service.

WRITTEN APPRAISALS: In effect, we are currently not performing written appraisals, but we can refer you to other reputable and quality appraisers in Tucson

First of all, an appraisal is the act or process of determining value, estimating cost, or determining present worth earnings. Most importantly, appraisals are opinions based on informed judgement, supported by facts using specific methodologies. Notably, the same item may have different appraised values depending on how you intend to use the appraisal. For instance, a value of an item for insurance may be very different than the value of that item for a charitable contribution.

First thing to remember, Tucson Estate Appraisers understand the different types of values, assigned uses, and market levels. Consequently, we will work with you to choose the proper type of value so that you can use the appraisal correctly and effectively.

To clarify, an appraisal is a three step process:

1). In the first place, on-site initial examination involves assessing and recording conditions, measurements, brief descriptions, and taking digital photographs of each item to be appraised.

2). As a matter of fact, off-site time is spent researching each item utilizing our expansive library, internet websites, and subscription-based internet databases.  Additionally, off-site time includes researching and identifying maker marks and manufacturing labels.  Off-site time may also include consulting other experts or locating comparable items for sale at local shops.  Finally, descriptions are finalized and research is conducted to assign appropriate values to the items appraised. Surprisingly, for each hour spent on-site, off-site research and report writing can take another four or more hours, depending upon the amount of items and amount of research necessary to complete the appraisal report.

3). In conclusion, the report consists of two copies of the complete appraisal, one given to our client and one kept for our files.  Included, there is a cover letter detailing the approach taken, itemization and values of the appraised items, as well as definitions. Finally, the last page is a summary of our qualifications.  As a matter of fact, our copy is kept in a secure file for a period of five years, or two years after the final disposition of litigation (if applicable), whichever is later, as required by the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). *The completed appraisal is available in approximately 10 business days after the initial examination.

Attorneys, private individuals, and trust officers often request appraisals  for:

  • Estate Appraisals
  • Divorce
  • Property division/Equitable distribution
  • Resale
  • Pre-move appraisals
  • Insurance riders and Insurance updates
  • Charitable donations
  • Informational appraisals

In addition to verbal approximations of value & written appraisals, we also offer these other related services:

Residential Downsizing Consultation: Comparatively, more often these days, people are downsizing and want to know how to sell valuable items, but do not know how or where to liquidate them or what they are worth. In like manner, during the consultation, personal recommendations are made for the best venue to sell each item or group of items. Finally, this information and guidance comes from Dwight and Christy’s 30 years of experience helping other clients.

Estate Sale Consultation: Remarkably, even experienced estate sale organizers may not always recognize the importance or significance of some of the items they are pricing. Notably, American Heirloom Appraisers can perform a “double check” through examining your items and identifying those which may be of higher caliber or more saleable than originally considered. In addition, Tucson Estate Appraisers can help you with estates, collections, or prepare for tag sales.
